E4 European Path at Heraklion

Here, the E4 runs from the Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) peak of Psiloritis down to the region of Akolyta – at which point it divides. The eastern branch takes one to the Nida plateau and south to Kamares; it runs on across the south and east flanks of Psiloritis into the hinterlands of the Prefecture.
The natural environment varies: from the forest at Rouva, a rare sight, and the impressive gorge of Aghios Nikolaos, to the olive-groves and vineyards of the Pediada region. The trail connects historic villages, old monasteries, unique natural features and cultural points of interest worth a visit.
